Look at this lil’ guy!

The IKEA hack trellis has worked out very well.

My garden has exploded over the past couple weeks.  It went from this,

to this:

Now instead of singing Tears for Fears “Sowing the Seeds of Love” in the garden, I sing this:

UGH WHAT ARE THESE? I went out to kill caterpillars tonight in the garden and found these bugs.  Are they good bugs? Or bad bugs?

Summer is over.  BOOOOO.  I had a very productive summer, though.  I took the summer session at El Camino College and built out my entire patio.

So let’s go through the projects, one by one.

Remember when I said I was going to build these? Well, I did.  And I planted a bunch of herbs, most of which are growing like gangbusters.  Some have been eaten by evil caterpillars.  I like my color choices much, much better, don’t you?  Here’s a comparison:

I built all 18 planter boxes in one class.

After that, I built some garden beds that ended up getting featured on Instructables.  Here’s what they look like now, painted and with growing veggies.  I used the leftover paint from my TV stand project.

With leftover scrap, I built a mini version for the cats.

I saw this project online and knew that’s what I wanted for my blueberry bush.  So I made it out of free wood from the scrapyard and painted it with leftover paint from the planter boxes.

Got a table and chairs from cb2 and tied it all together with a chartreuse outdoor rug!

DONE!

Finally, some progress.  I harvested some of my herbs and hung them to dry.  Dill, Oregano, and Thyme.

I planted these as seeds back in July.  This was a great resource on how to dry and store herbs.

The summer squash is an overachiever.

Carrot seedlings have been decimated.  Parsnips are ok for now. Tomatoes are strugs.

I don’t know what is attacking the broccoli.

 Something has laid eggs.

What is this guy doing?

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: I went out with a flashlight tonight. Found a bunch of caterpillars munching away.  They tried to curl up in a ball and pretend they were rocks but I was all, “No way, a-holes!” scooped them out of the garden and into the garbage disposal.  DIE, CATERPILLARS!

I made a mini version of the garden beds that I buit this summer from scrap wood and planted catmint (like cat nip) and cat treats.  I let the monsters outside today and they went right for it.  Maybe this will stop Dash from dashing next door and invading the neighbors’ patio.  Fingers crossed!

UPDATE: Dash is now running around the apartment, meowing at nothing.  I think he is high as shit.  Stasia is not high.  She’s just like, really enjoying the texture of the pillow on her face right now, you know?
